Simonholt Restaurant is very pleased to bring to Nanaimo music lovers an intimate (full band) performance by one of Canada’s most original and soulful songstresses, Miss Emily.
Patrons of the 2023 Nanaimo Blues Festival would no doubt remember her commanding, soul-revealing vocals. Emily is a JUNO nominated artist and has won multiple Maple Blues Awards.
Based out of Kingston, Ontario for over 20 years, Emily has collaborated and recorded on several occasions with musical colleagues Gord Sinclair and Rob Baker (members of the Tragically Hip).

The full band featured this July is a hybrid “East meets West” All-Star affair featuring Nanaimo-based super-talents, and frequent collaborators, Graham Shonwise on bass and Duncan Symonds on guitar. Long-time bandmate and keyboard wizard, Ben Vandergaast, will be joining Emily on this coastal adventure. The group is rounded out by Emily’s New Jersey based husband, Van Romaine, on drums. Romaine is highly regarded in the music industry as a band leader and drummer for Enrique Iglasias, as well as the Steve Morse band; he has just recently been featured in Modern Drummer magazine.

Having celebrated her 20th year as a full-time artist, touring Canada, the USA, the UK and Western Europe, Miss Emily reflects; “Getting to make music for a living for over two decades now has me focused in on the regions of the world I most love. The West coasters know they live in paradise. I’m always in awe of the beauty this part of the world boasts and I’m always heart-warmed by the equally beautiful music lovers who make me feel so welcomed and at home here”.

The performance will feature songs written and recorded by Miss Emily that are guaranteed to have audiences on their feet roaring for more.
